"Moret sur-Loing, France"
French Impressionist School (19th century)
In the manner of Gustave Loiseau
Oil on wood panel
11-1/2 x 9-1/2 inches (17 x 15 w/frame)
"Moret-sur-Loing" is a superb little picture in the manner of Gustave Loiseau (French 1865-1935). Loiseau, was loosely classified as a Post Impressionist. However, his overall approach, rather than being associated with any particular theory, is simply an attempt to represent scenes as sincerely as possible. The care and detail that can be found in the very, light and subtle brushwork is a joy to discover, especially with a looking glass. It's really a remarkable painting but an as-of-yet unidentified artist do the illegible signature at lower left.
