In this small floral still life, the effects are at once a charming and very personal study of Blue Gentians and Chrysanthemums simply and thoughtfully arranged much as one might experience in life. The reds and oranges of the chrysanthemums in the celadon green tea cup to the right are a counterbalance to the sparseness of the discarded blooms to the left.
 
While little is known of Jean Fournet (JB Fournet) what is clearly evident he was exceptionally skilled. The execution and playful colors working off one another are quietly exhilarating.
