Bulldog with a Food Bowl
French, early 20th century
Oil on board
Illegibly signed, lower left
9 1/2 x 12 1/2 (15 x 18 frame) inches
A tender and thoughtful portrayal of a seated bulldog expressing displeasure over the vacancy of the food bowl. The figure of the dog itself is very well-studied and proportioned. The artist clearly knew the physical structure and anatomy of its sitter since the physicality of the dog is excellent.
